The convention which established the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) was signed in Stockholm in July 1967, and subsequently came into force on 26th April 1970.
The convention currently has 191 parties from all corners of the world, and WIPO seeks to encourage creative activity, and to promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world.
To mark the anniversary of the convention coming into force, World IP Day was established in 2001 and is celebrated on 26th April each year. This year’s celebrations centre around women in innovation and creativity – and is an opportunity to highlight how the IP system can support innovative and creative women (and indeed everyone!) in their quest to bring their amazing ideas to market.
